Did you know it’s Children’s Book Week? If you love reading with your kids, stick around. There may be a giveaway at the end of this post!
Reading with the boys is something I love to do. But with crazy schedules and busy days, we really have to be intentional about it. Children’s Book Week, enjoying its 95th Anniversary seeks to celebrate reading, and I am joining in the fun by sharing some great ways to get more kids reading.

Last month, during the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration, attendees and our families were invited to a breakfast with some top-secret special guests and we had no idea just how special!! You should have heard the crowd erupt into song with Genevieve Goings of Disney Junior Choo Choo Soul. She has a fun and catchy song, yes. But what I heard was a room full of parents who love to engage with their kids.
And then out walked LeVar Burton. We went insane. The room was insane. I was five years old when Reading Rainbow first aired in 1983. The theme song is one of the threads in the backdrop of my childhood. I remember falling asleep with books on my chest because I just couldn’t keep my eyes open any longer. Reading was and still is magic to me. I couldn’t believe I was in the same room with Mr. Reading Rainbow himself!
This week, for his hard work over the years promoting Children’s litercay, Burton will receive the Impact Award at the seventh Children’s Book Week Gala hosted by the Children’s Book Council and Every Child a Reader. A well-earned award if you ask me! Congrats, Mr. Burton!

Genevieve and LeVar were there to promote Disney Junior’s just launched Give a Book Get a Book Campaign. Give a Book Get a Book is working with First Book, a non-profit social enterprise that provides new books to schools and programs serving children in need nationwide. Disney is committed to donating up to 1 million books during this matching program!
Give a Book, Get a Book
For a limited time, with the purchase of any specially-marked Disney Junior book or product, receipts or packaging will include a redemption code allowing kids and families to direct the donation of a book to First Book in the region of their choice and to access a free Disney Digital Book to share as a family. Additionally, Give a Book, Get a Book bookmarks with redemption codes will be distributed to visitors at participating public libraries and Radio Disney events throughout the summer.
Specially-marked books are currently available at The Disney Store and will be coming to nationwide retailers later this summer. Once you have your code, go to Give a Book, Get a Book to enter it!
Win a Box of Books!
It’s hard to talk about all this reading without giving away some books of my own, so I think I will do just that! The folks at Disney Publishing Worldwide have generously shared some of their new titles with us and I can’t wait to pass some of them along to one of you. Want to win?

I’d love to hear your favorite books to read with your kids. We are always looking for new stories to enjoy!
I paid a conference fee to attend the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration at a deeply discounted rate. As a part of this conference, we were provided with complimentary items, special discounts and other benefits such as food and entertainment so that we could experience the magic of Walt Disney World. I was not asked to blog about my experience. All thoughts in this post are my own. This is not a sponsored post, though the books were provided to me free of charge. ***This post contains affiliate links.
