Welcome back to Who Gets your Vote? !! Each Tuesday I will be highlighting at least one reader opinion about the upcoming election. On election day, I will answer these very same questions myself! The point of this series is to get real people to answer real questions about this election. We aren’t all the same and we don’t vote the same. I happen to think that is ok and welcome opinions that are different than my own. I’d love to see some healthy discussion in the comments!
As we narrow in on the final week before voting, I have two more reader interviews to share. Next week as promised, I will answer my own questions on Election Day! I decided to share these views together this week to remind us all that we truly are a country divided. NO matter who wins next week, almost exactly half of the nation will be disappointed. This is a big deal. We can’t expect these wounds to heal overnight because voters are immensely passionate about their choices. I encourage you to remember the things that unite us and try to work together in the coming years regardless of the outcome of the election. That is after all, what America is all about.
Today, I am sharing Nichole and Doreen’s interviews with their choice for President. Thank you so much for reading!
Comments welcome! As always, feel free to comment. But remember to be respectful. I know politics can get people excited, but hateful comments WILL be deleted.
An Obama supporter – Welcome Nichole!
Do you affiliate yourself with a party? Which one? I’m registered as an Independent.
Do you know who you will vote for in the Presidential Election yet?/Who? I’ll vote for President Barack Obama.
Why did you choose this person / or why are you still undecided? The Obama campaign’s stances on equal rights, women’s issues, health care and protecting the environment are pretty closely aligned with mine. The Romney-Ryan platform runs almost completely contrary to my core beliefs.
Are you a parent? Yes. I have a 7-year-old daughter and a 4-year-old son.
Why do you think your candidate is the best choice for parents? If undecided – what issues are you concerned about as a parent? I want my children to grow up in a country that values people above possessions. I know that’s probably too much to ask of any government, but I believe the Obama presidency is closer to my ideal on that front than a Romney presidency would be.
Do you feel like your candidate is misunderstood? Why? Both candidates are misunderstood to some extent, because running for president (and being president) seems to give people permission to malign you. There isn’t much room for understanding where a candidate is coming from when it’s so much easier just to chuckle at a sarcastic sound clip, bumper sticker or tweet. And of course there are lot of people who only listen to information that already reflects what they believe, which doesn’t help clear up anything at all.
A Romney Supporter – Welcome Doreen!
Do you affiliate yourself with a party? Which one? Republican
Do you know who you will vote for in the Presidential Election yet?/Who? Absolutely – Romney / Ryan
Why did you choose this person / or why are you still undecided? I chose Romney / Ryan because I want a candidate with a platform which most agrees with a Biblical stand on the social issues, as well as a Constitutional stand on our rights as citizens. I also want a candidate who will support Israel as our best friend in the Middle East and will support Jerusalem as the Capital City of Israel. In addition to this, I believe Gov. Romney and Sen. Ryan will address our economic issues with common sense and a forward vision.
Are you a parent? Yes, I have 3 grown daughters with families of their own.
Why do you think your candidate is the best choice for parents? If undecided – what issues are you concerned about as a parent? I believe the America we would see under the Romney / Ryan ticket would continue to promise the American Dream to anyone who would pursue it. We could continue to be blessed as a nation under God. One major concern I have for our children (and my grandchildren) is that we maintain the priority of a parent’s authority in their child’s upbringing and education. I believe that a growing government threatens this in many ways.
Do you feel like your candidate is misunderstood? Why? Not so much misunderstood; I do feel, however, that my candidate is frequently misrepresented by those who would like to destroy his reputation. Mitt Romney has been represented by much of the media as a rich guy who knows nothing of “regular people”. This could not be farther from the truth. He is, in reality, a very generous man with an amazing record of charitable giving, both of his time and money.
Thank you for sharing your honest opinions!
