***Taking a break from parenting topics today to call your attention to my nerdy side***
Facebook is making some exciting changes and today is the day! Public rollout of Facebook’s “Timeline” view starts today giving an entirely new perspective on the way we view our online data. The change was announced at this year’s f8 conference back in September and some of us
nerds developers got to check it out early.
To gain a comprehensive understanding of Timeline including how-tos and what to watch out for, check out this great recap of the f8 Timeline announcement over at Blogging Basics 101. It’s hard not to get excited after reading Melanie’s take. She states
What Facebook outlined at the 2011 F8 Conference is the first time I’ve seen a new idea that no one was expecting. It’s the first time I’ve been EXCITED about potential in a long while. What we’ve been doing up to this point has been a shadow of our social potential. What Facebook is doing is *really* social.
I have been eagerly awaiting the public roll-out because it really is cool! I love the aesthetics of the new profiles. Pictures are more prominent and you have the ability to customize what is visible to your readers.
Timeline also allows you to organize your data in a way that is as public or private as you want it to be. Of course this will mean that you will need to be sure your privacy settings are the way you want them. Here is a link to the Timeline FAQ so you can be sure your info is formatted the way you want it.
Timeline will be rolling out a few profiles at a time. If your profile is ready, there will be an announcement at the top of your page. Once you allow it, you will have a few days to clean up your ‘history’ in case you joined Facebook during your tumultuous college years like I did *ahem*. Lots of people will be chatting about the changes today. Check out Blogging Basics 101 on Facebook to join the conversations!
