He always gets a cone…

I wore the zebra dress that day. The one I got for seven dollars on a whim. It’s only the second time I’d worn it but it was Friday and zebras seemed to be in order. As soon as I came down the stairs, he said, how beautiful do you look mama!? He told me he liked my pretty dress the first of many times during breakfast.

Later, when it was clear that Calvin’s ear infection had returned for t he 3rd time in about a month, we headed back to the Doctor. Afterward, we had to stop at Target to fill the prescription. As we walked the aisles waiting for it to be filled, Oscar again told me how pretty I looked. He said, I love you mama. I like your pretty dress. You’re a princess!

To be fair, his best friend at school has been talking about her upcoming Tangled birthday party and he told me they built a Tangled tower out of blocks together. Still, there is a part of me that knows deep in my heart that my boy loves his mama and he’s not ashamed to tell me.

It fills my heart and breaks it all at the same time.

I decided that since we were already nearby, we would just have Chick-fil-a for lunch. A beautiful day to eat with my two amazing boys. Calvin will likely need tubes for his ears and we will cross that bridge when we come to it. Thanksgiving is around the corner and with all the craziness of this year, time is just flying way too fast. I have so much to do, so much to learn, so much to watch and enjoy.

He went up to the counter and traded his kid’s meal toy for ice cream like we normally do. This was only the second time he went up to the counter all by himself. He chose a cup instead of a cone for some reason. He always gets a cone. But this week, he changed his mind.
