I was browsing Instagram earlier today and got sucked in to the beautifully staged photos. You know what I’m talking about, the ones with the perfect cup of coffee and the fresh flowers on the table, maybe a newspaper in the corner or some book that is so new NPR hasn’t even reviewed it yet.
Well, folks. That is not my life. I mean, you can bet that if I ever have a moment like that, it will be on Instagram. But in the meantime, I decided that all I needed was to take my photos from above, make them square and filter them to death.
The truth is, I got a little ambitious with the new year home overhaul. We have a lot of clutter and in my quest to pare down, I have somehow unleashed a never ending pile throughout the house.
And that doesn’t even account for the Christmas presents we have yet to absorb. We have a rule in our house, “one in, one out.” It worked well before our children got attached to every single drawing they ever made or the mouth made out of marshmallows that have now dried out so much that they aren’t sticking to the glue anymore.
The shoe basket that was supposed to be an organized way of keeping dirt from tracking all over the place has now become the place to store ALL THE SHOES.
And the Goodwill pile used to be somewhat manageable until it became a game to pick up each item and inspect it to see if it really needed to come back into the playroom.
To the untrained eye, this might look like a microwave covered in junk that has accumulated through all four seasons, including candy canes from LAST Christmas. You know as well as I do, that’s exactly what it is.
But doesn’t it look pretty now that it’s a square?
