Breakfast is a big deal for me. It’s not that I love cooking breakfast but I NEVER skip it. Ever. I don’t care if it’s cereal or toast or a full buffet, if I am awake, breakfast is happening. Last week I was delighted to spend some time discussing healthy breakfast options with the gals from The Motherhood and Kellogg. It was fun to hear what other people eat in the mornings and get some ideas for ways to shake it up! I even learned a few things about how to make sure we each get enough fiber and ways to incorporate protein into the morning meal.
We are a cereal family. We LOVE cereal and could probably go overboard with it if we aren’t careful. But one thing I try not to do is get the super sugary options. Oscar requests Kelloggs Rasin Bran by name and says good morning to the “Sunshine” on the box. I love that he is getting his fiber and usually with a banana on the side a well rounded meal.
Jerry and I try to eat eggs at breakfast a few times a week to get our protein. This was especially helpful when I was in my first trimester and battling morning sickness. I had no idea that protein would help, but it totally did! However, Oscar refuses to eat eggs so far so we are looking for other ways to get more protein into his system. I loved Host Sarah Woodside’s outside the box suggestion of eating a turkey sandwich for breakfast! After all, if kids like it, who cares if it isn’t technically breakfast food? Turkey sausage was another hit and I am sure that would get a great reaction from our meat-lovin boy.
One of my favorite parts of the chat was rediscovering an old favorite! Mixing cereal and yogurt is another way to change it up at breakfast and I remember loving vanilla yogurt with Cracklin Oat bran stirred in. SO good! Definitely going on my shopping list!
