When I was at the Mom 2.0 Summit, I had the chance to chat with some of the people behind the HLN network. They were there as a conference sponsor and also to film some great conversations with the moms in attendance.
I decided to drop in and share some of my thoughts with their “Mommy Confessions” Series. Though I will say, when they told me to say “Mommy” I just couldn’t do it. Sidebar: Why do people older than 7 say Mommy? Why? This is something I will never understand, but I digress. I wanted to participate so I just moved past it. Or something.
Being in front of the camera is not something I am used to so I try to grab any opportunity I can for practice. In fact, one of my favorite sessions over the weekend was with Dayna Steele of Your Daily Success Tip, who gave us some amazing media tips. We even had a chance to practice interviewing each other and shared a personal success tip with her on video. I really like my success tip, but I have totally failed at keeping it up since the conference. Full disclosure.
In this video that my hands were flapping all over the place (big no no). I am such a hand talker and have to constantly remind myself to keep them to myself when on camera. Just like Kindergarten.
(video was removed by the owner. Sorry!)
In the HLN clip my hands are down but wow, I have some other thoughts about that one. I think the nervous laughter is hilarious. But to my credit, I was sharing my worst parenting moment. The nerves were well-founded! I am actually really proud of both videos and I know I will improve with each opportunity.
I have dabbled in video blogging a bit here and there, but I am making a stronger commitment to it for the second half of this year here on the blog. No really. I’m not just saying it this time! I even bought a new camera that I am really excited to use. So there.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Do you enjoy videos or tend to skip them when reading a blog? I know I tend to skip anything over 2 minutes. Do you have a time preference? Suggestions?
