2 Thumbs Up for a Summer Break and Big News!

summer thumbs up

This summer, I am doing something I don’t think I have ever done. I am taking a blog break! With my part-time job and the kids out of school, I decided it was time to scale back and make sure I am not overloaded.

As much as I love writing here, I just don’t have a lot of space for creativity right now. So instead of writing about our summer days, I’m going to enjoy them!

Changes ahead for Lil-Kid-Things

While I am resting, I have a little plan in the works for my return. I’ve mentioned changes on the horizon and the time is now! It’s time for a fresh face on this little blog and I am throwing in a new name with it!

Next month, I will say goodbye to Lil-Kid-Things and open the door to my new home, Just is a Four Letter Word. I’ll talk more about this later, but the fact is, I am tired of hearing people describe their lives in “justs”, as if their great accomplishments are somehow less than great because someone else did something seemingly more exciting.

My goal is to get back to the basics, enjoy my life and all my justs. Just a mom. Just part-time. Just stay-at-home. Just a few miles. Just two kids. What matters is perspective and I am turning mine upside down. I hope you’ll join me!

In the meantime, lilkidthings will still redirect to the new site and all my old content will be making the move with me. I am really looking forward to the new look and a much needed refresher!

Summer Plans

The photos in this post are from a quick beach trip I took a couple weekends ago with my family. It’s likely the only actual vacation we’ll have this summer since we are taking a big trip in October.

Because of this, our summer at home will consist of lots and lots of pool time, movies, cook-outs and life’s simple pleasures. I can’t wait!

Coming Home

If all goes as planned, all the blog changes will be made and I will be back here on my birthday, July 25th! In the meantime, check out some fun summer ideas and a delicious reminder of why I love what I do.

Whether you plan to travel, work, attend classes, or take it easy this summer, I hope you have a chance to relax and be renewed. The more I do it, the more I understand the importance of true REST. May we all find it this summer.

Thank you for reading and I’ll see you in July!

Thank you!! I am really excited too. I’ve never taken a long break like this before. I don’t know what I will do with myself 🙂

One of the things Mark Shriver said to us at Mom Congress is to never go into an advocacy meeting or anywhere else saying “I am just a mom.” He told us to own it and lead with it because being a mom is the most important and valuable title to wear. His words have stuck with me. “Just” is a great word when it refers to justice, but otherwise it’s a wasted sentiment. Enjoy your little boys this summer! I live vicariously through your photos and remember when my growing boys were diaper clad bundles of chub. Lord, I miss that…

Yes! I am so down with that mentality. And don’t worry, I am sure there will be no shortage of pictures 🙂
