After reading this article today, I got to thinking about registries and wedding gifts in general. It isn’t that I have a problem with people registering for a honeymoon, but it seems to be similar to the all out $30k wedding. Is it really worth it? Wouldn’t it be awesome if you could register for gas or groceries or new window shutters?? (I know you technically can, but work with me here)
Jerry and I spent a lot of time trying to decide what we wanted and needed to register for. And sure, there are a few silly things that are on there just for fun. But we are really trying to get off on the right foot and not have too many “things”. It is easy to get attached to something for absolutely no reason. I threw away a stuffed tiger that I have packed up and moved with me for almost 20 years because even though I think my dad won it for me, I can’t really remember when…or why. Do I love my dad any less because I threw it away? Of course not. But am I glad it isn’t sitting in a box in the attic? Yes.
Of course it is fun to give and receive presents. And I am not convinced that the whole honeymoon registry is a bad idea. But I am finding that I am far more excited about the gardening tools and the new towels than I would be about a fancier hotel for the honeymoon. I suppose everything is relative. But for this girl, getting married is enough for me!
