November is here and while it’s officially been fall for a while now, this is the time when I really start to feel festive. The holidays are right around the corner, NC weather is starting to be consistently cooler and the leaves in my neighborhood are changing. I suddenly realized that I need to make a holiday bucket list to be sure I hit all my favorites before the new year because y’all, there are only 7 more Fridays until Christmas!
I don’t say that to freak anyone out. But for those of us who love this season and want to make the most of it, some planning may need to be involved. New seasons give me energy and I feel like I need that this year more than ever.
For whatever reason, I’ve been running on fumes the past couple of months and that’s unlike me for this time of year. So right now, while I have a few minutes I am going to be intentional about how I want the last two months of 2017 to play out.
This year, I won’t be making all the things or baking all the things or attending every possible event. I have a few things I want to make time for and if that’s all that happens, I’m good.
Do you have a holiday bucket list? I’m going to share mine below and hope for the best!
My 2017 Holiday Bucket List
1. Finish Renovations
This is a biggie and one that I mostly only need to be present for. We’ve been working on our bathroom floor for the past couple weeks due to some water damage. That should be done next week and then by the end of the month, we should also have new kitchen counter-tops and a back splash!
I’m excited for this progress in our home but if you’ve ever done renovations, you know the whole house is upside down for the duration. My goal is to be through it by December 1st.
2. See some Movies
Yes, I have going to the movies on my list. Tis the season where every spare moment fills up and one of my favorite things to do at the holidays is go to the movies! Add in arranging for a sitter and choosing the night and it’s not so simple anymore. I want to see THOR: Ragnarok, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Disney’s Coco, and Wonder to name a few.
We already have tickets to see The Last Jedi in IMAX on opening weekend so I know we will at least make it to that one! THOR needs to happen (like yesterday) but we want to see it without the boys first, which adds a layer of planning. We will need a break after all that reno though, so it will be worth it!
3. Take and Send Christmas Card Photos
We love having fun with our Christmas Cards year after year. Last year I did a round up of our first decade of family Christmas Cards and I’m excited to add another one to the pile. I’m pretty sure I have the idea down and now we just need to make it happen. Another goal for November.
4. Spend Time with Family and Friends
We alternate family visits each year and this year we’ll be in Alabama for Thanksgiving and in the mountains for Christmas. We absolutely cherish these times and fill our hearts with as much laughter as we can squeeze in. We draw names for gift-giving so we will need to shop at some point. (Of course if you know me, I never go anywhere without Amazon in my back pocket! (affiliate link)
Because it’s our “mountain year” we won’t be decorating as much at home. This will save on time here but also means I need to be sure we bring everything we want for our holiday week. I’ve already organized our decorations so that part is done! Score. On to the food!
5. Participate in Holiday School Events
We love participating as much as we can when it comes to school stuff, but man this year is busy already! There are at least 3 more field trips and a party this month alone and we aren’t even to Christmas yet!
In past years, these things caught me by surprise, so I’m adding it to this list so I remember that it is most definitely coming and I should get ready. We love hanging out at the school. We just need to plan ahead!
Also, this year we get to do something extra special. Oscar was recognized as an Academic All-Star and got free tickets for us to go to a college football game. Can’t wait for that!
6. Record another Ukulele Christmas Song
One of our favorite things to do is sing with the ukulele. In past years, we have even recorded a song or two! This year, we’re trying to get a jump on things but still need to choose a song. Do you have a holiday favorite? We take requests!
7. Say NO and Relax
So after all that, I need to remember that the holidays should come with SOME relaxation. I am giving myself the freedom to say no without guilt. There is no way we will be able to do everything and that is totally ok. That’s why I am making my personal list of priorities which as you can see, is pretty full already!
For us this year, relaxation will likely not come until our time in the mountains but it will be well worth the wait and all this planning. I can’t wait so sit in my rocking chair on the porch with a delicious cup of coffee (possibly spiked – no judging) and breathe in some crisp mountain air.
Bring. It. On.
