This morning we started the day at 6:27am. I tend to bristle at the thought of getting out of bed before 7am, but more often than not, that’s how it happens. Oscar gets up with the sun, or before the sun or basically 10.5-11.5 hours after he goes to bed the night before. Hey, I am not complaining! I am SO thankful for the sleep. This just means I need to embrace my new farmer’s hours. We have tried to keep him up later, but that usually backfires with a fussy baby who still wakes up with the sun. SO, last night we fed him dinner, played quietly in the nursery, gave a bath, got pjs on and read books to TRY and stretch him to a later bedtime. And then it was 7pm. I knew I was in for it. Thankfully, he gave me til 6:27 before beckoning me to his side. I think I could get used to getting up in the dark. I mean I did it for countless mornings when I worked outside the home. It’s just the cycle of it all. Now, Oscar has gone down for a nap at 8am instead of 9 and the rest of the day follows suit. I am a creature of habit and routine so it’s hard for me to adjust to the dynamic of mommyhood. It’s a good stretch, but something that takes getting used to for sure.
Like it or not, I have an early riser.
This weekend has been really great. Jerry is off for the holiday today and we had nothing planned. I have been fighting a cold (or maybe allergies) so with Jerry here it has given me a chance to take a nap here, hot shower there. VERY helpful! We’ve been laying low. Last night we had pb&j for dinner and played cards. Then we went to bed at 9:30pm. I knew I would be up early so I planned ahead. HA! Take THAT, sun! Today we’ll just take it easy and clean up a bit from the weekend sprawl.
Happy Labor Day!
