Planning a wedding on a budget is something everyone has to deal with. Even if your budget is $50k, it’s still a budget and the limits will be pushed. This is why finding a deal is so completely satisfying. We can probably all admit to paying full price some of the time, but for many of us, it’s getting the sale, or feeling like we ‘beat the system’ with a steal, that makes us feel like we really got something great.
Well, I feel that way about my garage sale experience from yesterday. Jerry lives in a really interesting neighborhood full of old houses and young people. New families and some that have been around for generations had a community garage sale that we barely visited. But in the few that we did catch, I was able to get some great stuff that will lend that vintage feel that I am looking for.
I already have some china that I got from my grandmother. I plan to use it and another set of dessert plates (still looking) to have on each table with a stack of sugar wafers. Here is what I already have:
I love these plates and I am so excited to use them in the reception! My original idea was to have antique dinner plates for everyone, but I think this will do fine for the look I am going for. I have done some reading about the simplicity of weddings in the 40s, so we are going to keep the colors to neutrals for the linens and decorate with texture. Imagine my joy when I stumbled on a lot of 30 hand-made place mats, napkins, and coasters yesterday for $4.50!!!
I plan to use them everywhere, under the guest book, on the cake table, in the centerpieces. And I think they are lovely and plan to use them in our new home! It’s so fun to come across something like this that I wasn’t even really looking for, but now that I have them, I can feel my creativity spark! It’s fun!
We also found these little guys for 50 cents! I don’t think we will use them on the cake, but I think they will be an adorable addition to something! Maybe the entrance at the reception.
It’s a strange feeling to be acquiring pieces of a puzzle that has yet to be made. I hope what is in my head comes together!!
