SO I have now been through all 8 weeks of the Apartment Therapy Cure. It has been really fun and challenging to FINALLY get the spare room done! Just being able to leave the door open is an accomplishment! This week I put up some of the art and hung some mirrors. There are still a few things I want to do, but for all practical purposes, the room is done! And now, the reveal! Once again, here is a picture of my inspiration board and my “before” pics:
The BED: So the bed was definitely the most time consuming part of the project. Ever since I saw the chinoserie bed at Anthropologie, I knew I was done for. But instead of spending $1900, I purchased a used bed from Craigslist for $40, and a few cans of spray paint! A few afternoons later, I was home free.
The QUILTS: Thank God for family! The red quilt was the inspiration for this room. It belonged to Jerry’s grandmother and I fell in love with it instantly. The black and white quilt was from my mother and was purchased in the mountains of North Carolina at a Bob Timberlake store for a steal. I found the pillows at a TJ Maxx locally along with the ceramic plates on the nightstands.
The ART: I purchased the clock for $2 at a local yard sale just one week after we unloaded a shed-full of our earthly goods at our own yard sale. It’s all about give and take 🙂 The white mirrors were in the bathrooms when we bought the house and we replaced them with medicine cabinets. They are brand new so I was glad to find another use for them! Currently, the artwork on the wall was all done by me, with the exception of the butterfly in the white frame. A good friend did that one and it is my favorite!
The oval mirror was thrifted for $7 (yay) and the rug was from Pier One. We want to put many more pictures and frames on the “cluster” wall but that will have to be for another day when I can paint my frames and get new ones. For now though I think this is a nice start.
The Paint: The walls are painted with Benjamin Moore “Whispering Spring” which I thought was completely appropriate for a Spring cure on a relaxing guest room! The bed was painted with Rustoleum High-Performance Enamel spray paint in Regal Red.
This being my first cure, I learned about a lot of things I can do to improve not just this room, but honestly my whole house with out any (or much) money. It was completely worthwhile and I look forward to doing it again in the Fall! I am really pleased with the outcome and spending less than $200 made it even better!
