If you told me a few years ago that I would plan a whole weekend around a professional darts tournament, I’m not sure I would have believed you. Yet in 2025, not only did we attend the US Darts Masters in New York City, but we had a blast, and we’re already booked for 2026.

New York has always been good to us, but this trip felt extra fun. Maybe it was the energy of the darts crowd, the incredible food, or traveling with teens who were old enough to explore a bit on their own while my husband and I cheered on the pros.
Whatever the magic was, it worked, and I can’t wait to do it again. Here’s how we planned the perfect summer weekend in New York City.
Table of Contents
Home base in Lower Manhattan
We stayed at the Hyatt Centric Wall Street, which turned out to be the perfect spot. It was calm, comfortable, and surprisingly convenient, with easy subway access just around the corner.

We’ve stayed in Midtown before, and that’s fun, but there’s something about being downtown that feels a little quieter, yet still close enough to hop anywhere you want. And trust me, we hopped!

A bagel from Leo’s hit the spot on day one, and it was mere steps from the hotel. Since we spent four nights in the city, it was a great mix of family time and the darts championship. The boys really enjoy New York, so we made sure each of us got to do what we wanted.
Hell’s Kitchen has my heart and my appetite
One of the highlights of the weekend was a food tour through Hell’s Kitchen, which wasn’t on our radar until the folks at The Tour Guy reached out to see if we wanted to partner with them.

On our tour, we tried a little bit of everything from Japanese barbecue to warm bites to sweet treats and enormous meatballs. We were absolutely engorged when all was said and done and learned all about the history of Hell’s Kitchen.

Food tours have become one of my favorite ways to explore neighborhoods, especially in a city where the options can feel endless. It was the perfect way to fuel up and enjoy a walk through the city.
Broadway is still cool
I love a great show, but it’s safe to say my family isn’t really into musicals, so Broadway shows haven’t always topped our list of NYC priorities.
This year, however, Stranger Things: The First Shadow burst onto the scene, and as fans of the massive Netflix hit series, I knew it was right up our alley. It was the perfect activity for my family.

We all loved the show, and the special effects were unlike anything I’ve ever seen. If you’re a fan of the series, this one is a must-see!
Darts people are the best people
Jerry and I decided to attend the dart matches while the boys took off to enjoy a little freedom in the city. At night, they stayed at the hotel. But during an afternoon session, they wandered the NYC Public Library and saw a 4D movie.

It was surreal watching them walk off into the city, and it was a reminder of why these trips are so important to me. It won’t be long before they are off on their own adventures and making their own memories as young adults.
But first, darts! If you have never been to a PDC Darts event, the environment is electric! We had the Theater at Madison Square Garden packed out, and the crowd was so much fun.
Would you like to save this?

You will hear music, see (and wear) wild costumes, meet fans from all over the world, make handmade signs, and have the most fun ever.

My husband has been in a dart league here in NC for several years, but the world stage is on another level. I am hooked.
This year’s dates are June 25-26, 2026, in the same location, and tickets go on sale to the general public on February 13, 2026.
A delicious lunch at Fraunces Tavern
Between matches, we made time for a meal at Fraunces Tavern, one of our favorite historic spots downtown. At first glance, you might say the oldest tavern in New York City is a classic tourist trap, but I’m here to tell you it is entirely worth your time.

The food is hearty and flavorful, the atmosphere feels like stepping into a story, and it’s such a great place to recharge after a big day. We loved learning a little U.S. History while enjoying a great meal. This year, it will be extra special as we celebrate our nation’s 250th anniversary.

Plus, they had a Father’s Day special on a fancy bourbon flight, which was the icing on the cake!

The ferry might be the best ride in town
Since we were based in Lower Manhattan, we took advantage of the East River Ferry to Midtown, and it turned out to be one of my favorite parts of the whole weekend.

You get the skyline views without the traffic, and the breeze is its own reward. The boys loved it too. It was easy, scenic, and a great way to break up the day. We spent some time wandering the Upper East Side for a little window shopping.

What we’re changing this year
Every visit to New York feels like the first time. There is just so much to do! Our weekend had a little bit of everything, and we can’t wait for summer.
This time, we’re bringing it back to Midtown so the boys have more access to things within walking distance. We didn’t mind the transportation, but we weren’t entirely comfortable letting them use it without us. This year, we will be just minutes from Madison Square Garden, and everyone can come and go as needed.

It will also help us to prioritize a few things we didn’t have time for last year, like the High Line and Hudson Yards. I’m still planning out the extras, so let me know what else we should add!
If you’re looking for a fun excuse to visit New York, consider planning it around an event you’ve never been to before. You might just end up creating a new tradition like we did. And if you see us at the US Darts Masters in June, you better believe we will be in costume.
Everything You Need to Know About the US Darts Masters NYC
Tickets come in regular seat and table options. Table tickets are significantly more expensive but do not include a food voucher this year, which has been a point of frustration for attendees. Our advice: buy the tickets that fit your budget and eat before you go. Plan for stadium pricing on both food and drinks. We leaned into it and made the drinks part of the experience rather than fighting it. Grab a substantial meal nearby before the session and budget for an expensive snack inside.
If your older teens are interested in darts, it’s a fun, rowdy atmosphere. That said, there will be lots of drinking, and that adds a layer of unpredictability. We used our visit as a chance to give our teenagers some independence in the city while we attended the matches. It worked out great.
This is where the fun happens. We saw everything from condiment costumes to Teletubbies to Where’s Waldo to player jerseys. My husband went full American with loud flag pants, an eagle shirt, and a custom tee that just said DARTS. I wore a Statue of Liberty crown. Be comfortable, but don’t be afraid to commit to a look. The crowd rewards it.
Madison Square Garden sits directly above Penn Station, making it walkable from virtually all of Midtown and accessible by train from anywhere in the city. Lalyn is a great Thai restaurant a short walk away, there is a Raising Cane’s inside Penn Station if you want something casual, and the rooftop across the plaza at Roberta’s Pizza is a really fun vibe.
Eat before you go. Wear comfortable shoes. Make a sign. Say yes to the costume. And don’t be surprised if you leave already looking up next year’s dates. They also have a small merch table so bring even more money if you want to buy a souvenir. We love our souvenir beer cups printed with the year, US Darts logo and a few prominent players.
