If you dream about a Caribbean vacation but don’t want the crowds or the same old routine, let me introduce you to the Island of St. Kitts. The smallest country in the Caribbean has everything you want in a tropical getaway, from rainforest adventures to stunning beaches, majestic views, and food worth planning your days around.

Coastal landscape with green hills, a small peninsula, calm blue water, a marina, and a few scattered buildings under a clear sky.

But beyond the beautiful scenery and ocean breezes lies a fascinating story of conquest, war, and the birth of a nation. I had the chance to spend a few sunny days with my oldest son in St. Kitts as guests of the tourism board, and let me tell you, this island does it right.

Adventure Awaits

If your family is anything like mine, a vacation needs to have just the right mix of relaxation and adventure. We typically like to do a little of each, and St. Kitts offers some excellent choices.

Here are a few enjoyable options when planning activities. If you are in St. Kitts for one day via cruise, they may be bookable as excursions from the ship.

A coastal golf course with palm trees, sand traps, and a view of the ocean and distant mountains under a clear blue sky.

The best part is how easily accessible everything is. The island of St. Kitts has an area of about 68 square miles, roughly half the size of my city of Raleigh, NC, so nothing is too far away.

Make returning home a breeze with these easy meal ideas.

Zip-lining through the Rainforest

Imagine soaring over lush green treetops with the ocean in the distance. It’s thrilling without being too scary, which makes it great for adventurous families. Since 2025 has apparently been the year of the zip line for me from Canada to the Caribbean, we fall into the adventurous category.

A person wearing a helmet and harness rides a zip line through a lush, green forest.

After my rides with Sky Safari St. Kitts, I have to say, I’m hooked. Zooming down a zipline over a gorgeous view is the perfect mix of exhilarating and wondrous. If you’re afraid of heights, ziplining is also a great way to do something a little outside your comfort zone.

Guided Rainforest Walks

For those who prefer their feet firmly on the ground, take a guided walk into the heart of the rainforest. You’ll spot tropical plants, hear birds calling, and probably wonder if you could move there forever.

Guided walks start and end at the same location as the zipline, making it a great divide-and-conquer spot for families with various interests. By the way, you can also tour a rum distillery while you’re there.

Our rainforest guide, O’Neal, was a wealth of knowledge. He shared about the island’s plants, animals, and water sources. He even showed us how to scale “nature’s ladder,” a super tall tree with a massive root system.

Pro tip: Going up is much easier than climbing down.

People climb the large roots and trunk of a tree in a dense, green forest, surrounded by thick foliage and vines.

Jet Ski on Reggae Beach

Once you’ve had your fill of trees, head to the water. Reggae Beach is the spot for jet skiing, stand-up paddleboarding, and kayaking with turquoise waves as your playground.

Two people wearing life jackets stand in shallow water in front of a jet ski, with a beach, palm trees, and hills in the background.

Then, relax on the beach with a cold drink and soak it all in. As the Kittitians say, limin’ around is pure Caribbean fun.

Catamaran Tours including Nevis

One of my favorite parts of our trip to St. Kitts is how easy it is to hop over to Nevis, its smaller, quieter sister island. We spent a couple of hours on the beach there, and it was simply stunning.

A yellow and white catamaran floats on calm blue ocean water near the island of St. Kitts under a partly cloudy sky, with gentle waves reaching a sandy shore in the foreground.

Book a catamaran excursion and spend the day sailing, snorkeling around a shipwreck, and soaking up the sea breeze. When you dock in Nevis, you’ll find yourself on picture-perfect beaches where life feels slow and sweet.

History and Breathtaking Views

Not everything in St. Kitts is about beaches and water, though let’s be honest, they’re pretty spectacular. I also loved learning about the history.

St. Kitts is the first and, at one point, the richest British Colony in the Caribbean. Sugar production, slavery, and clashes with France are significant factors that contributed to the island we know today.

Since 1983, Saint Kitts and Nevis have stood proudly on their own, and you’ll catch that spirit in the music, the food, and the everyday reminders that keep their history alive.

Brimstone Hill Fortress

One magnificent spot is the Brimstone Hill Fortress. This UNESCO World Heritage Site, dating back to 1690, is perched high above the island and offers panoramic views you’ll never forget. It’s part history lesson, part photo op, and totally worth the climb.

Two historic black cannons positioned on a stone fort wall overlook green hills and the ocean on the island of St. Kitts under a partly cloudy sky.

Walk atop the walls and wander in and out of barracks, sick bays, kitchens, and pantries to get an idea of life in the fortress. After touring, stop for a bite to eat at the on-site restaurant and enjoy lunch with a view.

Timothy Hill Overlook

Another must-see viewpoint is the Timothy Hill Overlook. This is a quick photo stop you won’t want to miss. On one side, the Atlantic Ocean crashes into shore; on the other, the calm Caribbean Sea sparkles in the sun.

A winding coastal road passes through green hills alongside blue ocean waters under a partly cloudy sky.

You get both views from this spot at once, divided by a lush mountain range. Talk about an unforgettable backdrop.

Where to Stay in St. Kitts

There are several hotel options, each offering something different. During our visit, we visited two lovely destinations.

Koi Resort

Chic and stylish, this Curio location by Hilton is perfect if you love a modern vibe with a boutique feel. I loved the natural setting and serene poolside views.

A hand holds a yellow coconut with a red-and-white striped straw on the island of St. Kitts, with a stone Buddha head and lush greenery in the background.

The room was comfortable, clean, and peaceful. Our view overlooked a nearby golf course and Half Moon Bay in the distance. This is an excellent resort for rest and relaxation, and the food was great, too.

St. Kitts Marriott Resort

For another option with a large resort setting, head to Marriott St. Kitts on Frigate Bay. The Marriott is a solid choice if you’re traveling with kids or love a bustling resort atmosphere.

A wooden sailboat is displayed on a narrow waterway inside a building with tall columns, evoking the charm of the island of St. Kitts and overlooking an outdoor area with palm trees.

There are multiple pools, plenty of dining options, shopping, space to spread out and a casino. It’s also located on a busy street with many restaurants within walking distance.

Whether you want to be in the middle of the action or a more secluded holiday, both resorts were delightful. Other popular options include Park Hyatt St. Kitts and Belle Mont Sanctuary Resort.

Where to Eat in St. Kitts

Foodies, this island will not let you down. From a barefoot beach lunch to a fancy dinner, there’s something for every craving. My son loves seafood, and let’s just say he was a very happy guy all week long.

We didn’t have a bad meal on the island. There were so many choices, and it was all delicious. Here are a few of my favorite spots.

Arthur’s

Seafood right on the beach. The view from Arthur’s is like something out of a dream. The rocky coastline draws the eye to the convergence of the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.

It’s a beautiful open-air restaurant with delicious food. You might even see a neighborhood goat or two.

A person in a yellow shirt walks on a path beside a white and blue seaside building with greenery and ocean in the background.

Spice Mill

Spice Mill is upscale island dining at its finest. The menu offers everything from seafood to steak, and there is a view of Nevis across the bay.

Make sure to try the Johnny cakes appetizer. You won’t be sorry.

An open-air restaurant with wooden decor on the island of St. Kitts overlooks a waterfront seating area at sunset, with tables set for dining and a view of the sea and mountains in the background.

Rock Lobster

Casual, friendly, and perfect if you’re craving lobster without the fuss. We walked to Rock Lobster from the Marriott resort and it was such a vibe.

I had the grouper and Oscar split this massive seafood platter with one of the other writers. And yes, they finished all of it!

A large seafood platter with crab legs, shrimp, mussels, clams, and lemon on a white dish, surrounded by cutlery, fries, burger, vegetables, and glasses on a table.

Carambola Beach Club

Carambola Beach Club offers upscale beachfront dining, where you can watch the sun dip into the water while you eat. During the day, rent a beach chair and umbrella to enjoy the surf before a delicious lunch.

We had calamari and sushi for dinner, and it was incredible. I wish I had saved room for dessert because everything looked amazing. I suppose that means I have something to look forward to next time.

Call it adventure, call it paradise, call it dinner with a view. The island of St. Kitts is all of the above, and exactly the getaway you didn’t know you needed.
