If you love big flavors with very little prep, this Ciabatta Muffuletta sandwich recipe is about to become your new favorite. The mix of meats, cheese, and olive tapenade is timeless, and it’s the kind of combination that doesn’t need changing or overthinking.

A sandwich with layers of deli meat, cheese, and chopped olives on crusty bread, partially eaten, sits on a black plate.

Slice the ciabatta in half lengthwise, and on one side, layer the ham and mortadella evenly. Add salami for a little kick if desired.

Open sandwich with two slices of provolone cheese and deli meat on a slice of bread, next to the top piece of bread, on a dark surface.

Add the provolone and mozzarella on top of the meats.

Open sandwich with olive tapenade on one half of ciabatta bread and stacked slices of provolone cheese and deli meat on the other half, on a dark surface.

On the inside of the other half of the bread, spread a generous layer of olive tapenade. Put the two sides together and slice in half.

For an optional heating option, place the sandwich open-faced in a toaster oven until the cheese is slightly melted.

Recipe Tips

  • If your ciabatta is extra thick, gently hollowing out a bit of the inside helps keep the layers balanced.
  • This sandwich pairs well with kettle chips, a simple salad, or fresh fruit.
