Big Mac Sloppy Joes are the perfect way to take a classic childhood meal and combine it with a fast food favorite at home. They are super easy to make and a fun weeknight dinner that will make everyone smile.

My boys recently discovered Big Macs and they loved them. In fact, a Big Mac is now one of my youngest son’s favorite sandwiches! Growing up I loved sloppy joes so it just makes sense to put them together.

Big Mac Sloppy Joe Ingredient List

Making fast food copycat recipes at home is easy with a few simple ingredients. And don’t forget the toppings! This is a great recipe for a quick and easy weeknight dinner.

What to Buy:

  • Ground beef
  • Onion, finely chopped
  • Thousand island dressing
  • Ketchup
  • Yellow mustard
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper
  • Hamburger buns (use a plain or sesame seed bun)
  • American cheese
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Sliced pickles

Brown the Meat

Instead of beef patties, we’re going to crumble the meat sloppy joe style.

Start by dicing your onion into small pieces.

Add the onion and ground beef to a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season with salt and pepper.

Optional: add a little garlic powder and onion powder too if you like. I always like a little extra kick when making sloppy joes but it’s optional.

Drain off any excess grease and turn the heat to low.

Easy Big Mac Sauce Recipe

This classic sandwich wouldn’t be complete without the special sauce and this copycat Big Mac sauce recipe couldn’t be easier to make.

In a small bowl, add the big mac sauce ingredients including thousand island dressing, ketchup, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir to combine.

Add the sauce to your meat mixture and simmer for 5 minutes, until the sauce is heated.

To serve, spoon the mixture onto the bottom bun and top with a piece of cheese. Add some shredded iceberg lettuce and sliced dill pickles, then place the bun on top.

How to Store Leftovers

For best results, store leftovers separately. Place cooked meat in an airtight container and refrigerate. Lettuce and pickles should also be refrigerated.

Homemade Big Mac Variations

  • Some homemade big mac sauce recipes call for a tablespoon or so of sweet pickle relish to this tangy sauce. I prefer to leave it out but it’s up to you!
  • If you don’t want to use a bun, make a Big Mac salad! Add all the ingredients to a bowl (minus the bun) and enjoy.
  • If you prefer a burger, add an egg to the ground beef and press into patties. Then fry up your homemade burger in the skillet or grill.
  • Use frozen french fries or air fryer roasted potatoes to complete the meal.
  • To make your own triple bun creation, add the bottom of a second bun to the middle of your sandwich and top with more creamy sauce.
  • Serve with onion rings for a fun twist.

Ingredients 

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 Small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup Thousand island dressing
  • 1/3 cup Ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper
  • 5 Hamburger buns
  • 5 slices American cheese
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Sliced pickles

Instructions 

  • Brown the ground beef with the onion in a large skillet over medium heat. Season with salt and pepper.
  • When the meat is fully cooked, add the thousand island dressing, ketchup, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir to combine.
  • Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes, until the sauce is heated.
  • To serve, spoon the mixture onto a bun and top with a piece of cheese. Top with lettuce and sliced pickles, then place the bun on top.
